Pitter Patterns

Student Programs Lesson Information, Standards Correlations, and Post Visit Activities

Pitter Patterns: (Grades 4K & 5K • 60 minutes) Students will actively participate in multisensory activities featuring repeated sequences of colors, shapes, letters, sounds, and movements. The students will identify, describe, construct, and extend patterns, and they will analyze patterns to determine their rule. They will also look for patterns in nature using live animals.

Grade K: SCMS 3.1, 3.2, 3.3

Kindergarten Mathematics
Algebra
Standard K-3:
The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an emerging sense of repeating and growing patterns and classification based on attributes.

Indicators:
3.1
Identify simple growing patterns.
3.2 Analyze simple repeating and growing relationships to extend patterns.
3.3 Translate simple repeating and growing patterns into rules.

Grade K: MKG3 a, b

Kindergarten Mathematics
MKG3:
Students will identify, create, extend, and transfer patterns from one representation to another using actions, objects, and geometric shapes.

Indicators:
a.
Identify a missing shape within a given pattern of geometric shapes.
b.
Extend a given pattern, and recognize similarities (such as color, shape, texture, or number) in different patterns.
