Student Programs Lesson Information, Standards Correlations, and Post Visit Activities

Minerals, Ores, & Fossil Fuels: ((Grades 6 & 8 • 60 minutes) Students learn to identify minerals by examining key properties of excellent specimens; then they identify 10 unknown minerals using a dichotomous key. Valuable products made from earth resources are discussed throughout the program.

3.5 Summarize the importance of minerals, ores, and fossil fuels as Earth resources on the basis of their physical and chemical properties.

Students will investigate the scientific view of how the earth's surface is formed.
