Exploring Our Senses

Student Programs Lesson Information, Standards Correlations, and Post Visit Activities


Exploring Our Senses: (Grades 4K & 5K • 60 minutes) Students will explore and exercise their five senses through hands-on, eyes-on, ears-on, noses-on activities. Working together in small groups, they will use descriptors such as rough, smooth, hard, soft, round, flat, sweet, salty, sour, and bitter as they experience and identify mystery sights, sounds, textures, shapes, smells, and tastes.

Standard K-3:
The student will demonstrate an understanding of the distinct structures of human body and the different functions they serve. (Life Science)

Indicators:
3.1
Identify the distinct structures in the human body that are for walking, holding, touching, seeing, smelling, hearing, talking, and tasting.
3.2 Identify the functions of the sensory organs (including the eyes, nose, ears, tongue, and skin).
