Grade 1: SCMS 5.1, 5.2
Grade 2: SCMS 5.1, 5.2

Kindergarten Mathematics
Measurement
Standard K-5:
The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an emerging sense of coin values and the measurement concepts of length, weight, time, and temperature.

Indicators:
5.1
Identify a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, and a dollar and the value of each.

Grade 1 Mathematics
Measurement
Standard 1-5:
The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes a sense of the value of combinations of coins and the measurement of length, weight, time, and temperature.

Indicators:
5.1
Use a counting procedure to determine the value of a collection of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters totaling less than a dollar.
5.2 Represent a nickel, a dime, a quarter, a half-dollar, and a dollar in combinations of coins.

Grade 2 Mathematics
Measurement
Standard 2-5:
The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an understanding of the value of combinations of coins and bills and the measurement of length, weight, time, and temperature.

Indicators:
5.1
Use a counting procedure to determine the value of a collection of coins and bills.
5.2 Use coins to make change up to one dollar.

Grade K: MKN1 h, i, g
Grade 1: M1N1 e
Grade 2: M2N1 c

Kindergarten Mathematics
MKN1:
Students will connect numerals to the quantities they represent.

Indicators:
g.
Use informal strategies to share objects equally (divide) between two to three people or sets.
h.
Identify coins by name and value (penny, nickel, dime, and quarter).
i.
Count out pennies to buy items that together cost less than 30 cents.

Grade 1 Mathematics
M1N1:
Students will estimate, model, compare, order, and represent whole numbers up to 100.

Indicator:
e.
Exchange equivalent quantities of coins by making fair trades involving combinations of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters and count out a combination needed to purchase items less than a dollar.

Grade 2 Mathematics
M2N1:
Students will use multiple representation of numbers to connect symbols to quantities.

Indicator:
c.
Use money as a medium of exchange. Count back change and use decimal notation and the dollar and cent symbols to represent a collection of coins and currency.
