Conference Schedule

Our event will start with check-in at noon on August 18th with a meet-in-greet reception in the Planetarium (CEMC 235). We will start our first presentations at 1 pm. We will have dinner Thursday night and lunch on Friday provided.

Dooley has a few full dome productions in its catalog and we will set aside some time to highlight these programs for those interested. Depending on the number of presentations and additional activities we should be done by 4 pm on Friday (8/19). A more detailed schedule will be sent to everyone before the meeting.

Please complete the registration form at the link below so we can determine the headcount and place the catering request. You may also submit presentation information during registration or at a later date.

Conference Presentations

Now is the time to start planning something to share with the group if you are interested.

One of the major themes for discussion will be preparing for the August 21, 2017 Solar Eclipse. If you've got ideas for handling large crowds (or activities we can share with our local schools) you'll have a ready made audience of listeners.

We will have access to a large classroom for PowerPoint presentations. If you would like to present content for a portable planetarium system please indicate that on your reservation form. You can submit presentation information at the same link as the registration form. You will need to only complete your name and email in the first section.

There is a large selection of hotels available by the Florence Civic Center. (Right-click to view larger image) Hotel Map

From the Civic Center it is a 25 minute drive to the University by Interstate I-95 North or a 40 minute drive through town. This area will give you the cheaper prices and put you in the major restaurant and shopping area of Florence.

If you would like to stay closer to the University your other option is the Holiday Inn Express at the I-95/Hwy 327 interchange. You will be about 15 minutes from the University here, but the prices will be slightly higher.

Parking at Dooley Planetarium will be plentiful as our meeting will be taking place before classes have begun. No permits are required to park in Lot A. Dooley Planetarium is located in the Cauthen Educational Media Center directly across from Lot A. Sign boards will be placed around the building to help guide you to the meeting location.

Driving Directions

Francis Marion University is located just 7 miles East of the city of Florence. Florence is serviced by two Interstates: I-20 and I-95.

Those traveling by I-20 should merge onto I-95 North instead of traveling through town to reach the University. I-20 will take you right into the major shopping area and many hotels if you wish to stay overnight.

Those traveling on I-95 should exit at 170. This road is Hwy 327. Turn left at the intersection where you see Pizza Hut and Wendy's. The University will be at the next stop light. If you require additional directions please let us know.
