Planetarium Update

In December 1993, the United States Congress appropriated $1 million to the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center to equip the Du Pont Planetarium. The Center is in the process of submitting the appropriate paperwork to receive the funds so that purchases can be made.

The Center will purchase the Digistar Projector from the Evans and Sutherland Inc.. The Digistar is the state-of-the-art projector that uses computer graphics to project images. Because the images are computer generated, many types of computer graphics can be displayed on the dome enabling the Center to be flexible in its programming.

It is hoped that the planetarium will be equipped and ready for public showings by January 1995. We will keep you posted as to its progress.
