Dr. Gary Senn Receives "Computer Using Educator Award"


Dr. Gary Senn, Technologies Director for the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and Research Assistant Professor of Education, received the "Computer Using Educator Award" on November 12 in Columbia, SC at the 8th Annual Conference of the South Carolina Association for Education Technology and Apple Computer Technology.

Dr. Senn directs three programs designed to incorporate computer technology into the classroom at the district and regional level: Computer Technology to Support Instruction in Mathematics and Science (CT SIMS), Computer Technology for Elementary and Middle Schools (CT FEAMS), and Computer Technology for Earth Science Teachers (CT FEST). His nomination for this award reads: "By the end of this school year, Gary will have had a direct impact on over 85 teachers, 2,000 students, and 20 schools...As a result of Gary’s involvement in these programs, teachers and students are now using computers in the educational environment. This is certainly a significant impact for computer technology in education."

The award is presented to an educator who has focused on improving instruction in grades K-12 through integrating technology into a regular instructional program.
