Description: 92 teachers in the CSRA HUB participated in AIMS Series 1 workshops last summer. Upon their request, the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and Barnwell School District #45 will co-sponsor AIMS Series 2. The Week with AIMS Summer Workshops will be held at Guinyard-Butler Middle School in Barnwell in 3 sessions: grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-9. Across the state, local Eisenhower funds have been used to help teachers participate in AIMS workshops for several summers. The Ruth Patrick Science Education Center also sponsors teacher scholarships for which teachers may apply. A $50 application fee must be submitted along with the course application form in order to be considered for a scholarship. Once selected, the fee is non-refundable. Teachers who must withdraw their application after being notified of their selection are responsible for finding a replacement in their same level. We salute those many schools and districts who have supported their AIMS teachers by supplying the hands-on materials necessary to conduct the activities in the classroom. Several schools have purchased a complete materials kit for each teacher that participated in last yearŐs workshop. On October 29, 25 AIMS teachers came together and shared the many innovative things they have done with their students. One 20-year veteran teacher shared the fact that she has experienced a complete revival in her enthusiasm about science and in her teaching techniques. Way to go AIMS teachers!!!
