Student Programs Log Record Requests for 2005-2006

Student Programs staff are excited about the record number of requests that we have received for the 2005-2006 school year. So far, we have scheduled programs for 26,281 students, and we have requests for 7,538 more students on the waiting list. We regret the large number on the waiting list because we would like to fulfill all requests. Unfortunately, budget constraints make it impossible to support the number of staff positions required to deliver programs for over 30,000 students. We continue to seek additional funding and hope that we can accommodate more requests in the near future.
This summer, we saw the largest increase in requests from middle school teachers, a group we had hoped to attract through new program topics and new ways of scheduling. We want to keep students excited about the study of science and math at this critical stage of young adolescence. So, thank you to all middle school teachers who have chosen the RPSEC for field trips this year!
We also increased our offerings for 4K and 5K students this year, so we’ll have more little people coming to the RPSEC, too. We hope that our quality, hands-on programs will help all our visiting teachers to infuse a love for learning science, math and technology in our students. Confirmation letters have been sent to teachers, and programs will begin on September 6th.
