As you know, the S.C. Science Curriculum Standards were approved and should now be on your desk, ready to reference! If you have not received a copy of the new science standards, please make sure you see your principal or district office personnel. This document was mailed by the State Department of Education in July to all schools and district offices.

This academic year is an adoption year for exemplary science materials. An Adoption Committee, comprised of teachers throughout the state, has been reviewing materials submitted by publishers in order to narrow the selection process. In early spring of 2001, the RPSEC and CSRA Hub will host a review workshop. This workshop will allow time for teachers to review exemplary materials among colleagues and publishing representatives.

Keep your eyes open for your 2000-2001 Student Programs confirmation letter. We will be mailing confirmation letters based on your requests around August 15. The confirmation letter completes your reservations for programs, so please sign and return your letters as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you. Have a great year!

The Traveling Science and Mathematics Demonstrations Program said good-bye to Mrs. Harriet Jaworowski on July 14, 2000. Mr. John Hutchens will now be overseeing the program. You may make reservations by calling 803-641-3683 or from Augusta, 278-1967, ext. 3683. (Make your requests early because reservations are made on a first come first served basis.)
