Come join us at the Ruth Patrick Science Center (RPSEC) at USC Aiken for a fun filled evening for the whole family as we celebrate the Earth and sky during the International Year of Astronomy. Events include planetarium shows (Two Small Pieces Of Glass), hands-on activites, night-sky viewing, and a visit from the Galaxy Gals who will present awards to art contest winners. Earth and Sky Night is proudly sponsored by the Astronomy Club of Augusta, USC Aiken, Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and DuPont Planetarium .

Presentation of Awards: The International Year of Astronomy Art Contest will conclude with awards being presented by the Galaxy Gals between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. These fun-loving women will be dressed as planets and other celestial objects, and they will mingle with the crowd throughout the evening. Don't miss this unique opportunity to meet some of Aiken's prominent citizens in their “heavenly” attire!

Two Small Pieces Of Glass: 7:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m., 9:00 p.m., and 10:00 p.m. Shows are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The admission fees are: Adults $4.50, Senior Citizens $3.50, 4K-12 Students $2.50. Children under 4 years old are not admitted.

Hands-on Activities: A variety of hands-on activities will be available from 7:00 - 9:30 to help people understand the wonders of earth and space science. Many activities will have materials you can take home with you, and live animals such as snakes, turtles, alligators, and the barred owl will be on display.

Night-Sky Viewing: Members of the Astronomy Club of Augusta will have a number of telescopes available for use by the public after dark. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see different telescopes in use and to learn about the models available for amateur astronomers. The Bechtel Telescope in the RPSEC Observatory will also be available for viewing the wonders of the sky.

We would like to give a big thank you to our sponsors: The Astronomy Club of Augusta, the DuPont Planetarium, the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
