"Closing the Learning Gap Between Black Children and Other Groups"

Keynote Speaker:
Dr. Frank Roberson
Associate Superintendent
Cosolidated School District of Aiken County

This seminar will be lead by Dr. Frank G. Roberson, author, educator, and practitioner in raising the achievement of underperforming students.

The session is designed to present participants with an Action Plan to promote the engagement of students (kindergarten through college) in the classroom. The greatest hindrance to closing the achievement gap between black children and other ethnic groups is the lack of consistent effort on the part of the student. The seminar will provide participants with the tools to identify the condition and situation that interferes with engagement (be it a learning deficiency, apathy or lack of interest, or a disconnection with school and the reason for the disconnection).
There are many ongoing initiatives to address the achievement gap. But this initiative has a different focus and a different set of actions that can influence students to become seriously engaged in the learning environment.
