Space Weeks '98

October 19-30

In October of this year, the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, the CSRA HUB in cooperation with the National Management Associatoin and NASA will provide a NASA Education Specialists and an astronaut to our HUB region for the purpose of conducting student programs in the middle schools, teacher workshops and special appearances at Science Education Enrichment Day (S.E.E.D.) on October 24, 1998. Every middle school in the CSRA HUB region has the opportunity to receive the benefits of a student program and teacher workshop conducted by the Specialist.

The student program is designed for school audiences and provides an overview of NASA's history, its mission and significant discoveries. The NASA Langley Research Center Aerospace Education Services provides professional development workshops for educators in our area. The workshop materials are based on NASA's unique mission and support the national and state standards in mathematics, science, geography and technology. Topics for teacher workshops will include: Suited for Space Walking, Rockets, and NASA Lunar Certification. All instructional materials are provided by NASA.

Pending approval of the school districts and principals, every middle school in the CSRA HUB has been scheduled to receive these programs some time the weeks of October 19-30, 1998.
