Overview of Benefits

My name is Carla Hayes, and I am the Benefits Administrator for USC Aiken, and I have created this website as a tool for new, current and prospective employees here at USC Aiken.  If you have any suggestions or comments on how to improve this site, please e-mail me at  carlah@usca.edu.

Health Insurance

USCA employees are covered under the State of South Carolina, and insured by Blue Cross/Blue Shield.  Services have to be medically necessary to be covered under the health insurance.
If you live in the Aiken/Augusta area, you have three options for health insurance coverage:  the Standard State Health Plan, the Economy State Health Plan, or the Companion HMO.
Those living in the Columbia area will have additional options.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is offered at no cost to employees who have employee only coverage.  Family coverage is available at a small rate.
If you need extensive dental work, we also offer the dental plus plan.

Vision Care

Vision Care is a discount program.  If you go to a participating vision care provider, you will be charged $50 for an eye exam, and you will receive a 20% discount on all eyewear, except disposable contacts.

Long Term Disability

Employees are automatically enrolled in the Basic Long Term Disability Insurance when they sign up for one of the health plans.
Supplemental Long Term Disability (SLTD) is offered at an additional charge.  SLTD gives added protection to your income if you become disabled and unable to work.

Life Insurances

The University offers three different types of Life Insurance.  We offer the State Optional Life Insurance, Prudential Life Insurance and Colonial Life Insurance.

Long Term Care Insurance

Long Term Care Insurance is offered to employees, spouses, and even parents and in-laws.  Aetna underwrites our policy.  To apply for LTC, you have to be unable to perform 2 out of the 5 daily living functions (eating, dressing, mobility, etc.)

Home Owners & Auto Insurance

Travelers Insurance offers University employee a discout on their home owners and auto insurance.  They will give a free estimate over the phone!
