I am originally from Columbia, but since
I have lived in Aiken for almost thirty years, I consider myself an Aikenite.
I have three daughters, 25, 22, and 19. My oldest daughter is a research analyst
in Myrtle Beach, my middle daughter will graduate in nursing from Clemson in
May, and my youngest, also a Clemson student, is a co-op for NASA in Huntsville,
Alabama. So, my husband, Tony, and I usually spend our weekends traveling to
visit them. We also have a miniature schnauzer, Darcy, who rules our home. When
I am not grading papers, or traveling to see my daughters, I like to read. Murder
mysteries are my favorite, but I also enjoy biographies. My husband works as
an electrical engineer at Savannah River Site, and he spends his free time singing
with the Heart Throbs during the year and performing in the annual Heart Fund
show at the Etheredge Center in February.
I received an associates degree in business
administration from USC Columbia in 1976. After being a stay-at-home mom for
over twelve years, I decided to go back to school, and in 1996, I received my
bachelor's degree in English education from USC Aiken. For the past nine years,
I have taught English at Midland Valley
High School. So far, I have taught English I and English II, Journalism
(yearbook), and HSAP (High School Assessment Program) Assistance classes. I
also served as the Beta Club advisor. As a teacher, I find that every day is
an adventure. I try to instill in my students a love of literature, and I hope
that along the way I have made a difference in their lives. Last year, I decided
to return to USCA to pursue my Master's in Educational Technology. My plan is
to graduate in 2006.
