About Michael Casdorph

I was born in Charleston, West Virginia though moved to Anchorage, Alaska when I was very young. Growing up in Alaska was a treat! The natural beauty and spleandor have been burned into my psyche forever and I will always consider Alaska home.

Camping, search and rescue, and fishing were my favorite activities. I was extremely involved in Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol throughout my childhood. My fondest memories are of camping whether in the sub-zero degree of winter or on the bank of a salmon filled river in summer. Throughout school I was active in music participating in symphony band, marching band, jazz band and orchestra. I played tenor and barritone saxaphone and bassoon.

Towards then end of my highschool career my family moved to Moscow, Idaho (home of the University of Idaho) and then to Mukilteo, Washington. It was sure a shock when I stepped out of the plane in Moscow and saw nothing but rolling wheat fields as compared to the towering mountains I was accustomed to. For my undergraduate college education I attended University of Portland for a couple of semesters and complete my B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies at Marylhurst University outside of Portland, Oregon.

While Alaska is my true love, Oregon and Washington are a close second. From Portland you can drive to either the mountains or the Pacific Ocean in little more than an hour. The Oregon coast is spectacular with excellent scenery, whale watching, fishing, and several nice small-town communities. If you ever consider a tour of the West coast consider driving up the Pacific Coast highway from Northern California through Oregon and up into Washington.

In 1995 I gave up the city life of Portland and moved to the Aiken, South Carolina area. I married and have a daughter named Madison. We enjoy the fresh peaches in the spring, the scenic Great Smoky Mountain railway in the summer, Myrtle Beach in the fall and Callaway Gardens at Christmas.
